Erectile Dysfunction? Men, Lift Your Heads

Procedure Process Explanation

Erectile Dysfunction and Penile Implant Surgery

Erectile dysfunction is a condition in which a man cannot achieve or maintain an erection due to insufficient blood flow to the penis when sexually stimulated. It can significantly impact one’s sex life and may be caused by a variety of factors, including poor blood circulation, hormonal imbalances, neurological issues, stress, environmental pollution, and irregular lifestyle habits. Although erectile dysfunction itself is not a lift-threatening issue, it can have a significant impact on a man’s self-esteem and sexual life, so appropriate treatment and management is necessary.

When most people think of the word “implant”, they think of dentistry or orthopedics, but urology departments also perform implant surgeries. Penile implant surgeries are the latest treatment that can give patients with erectile dysfunction a green light for recovery.

Inside the penis are two columns called the corpora cavernosa, and an erection occurs when these corpora cavernosa fill with blood. Penile implant surgery is a procedure that helps treat erectile dysfunction by inserting a silicone cylinder that replaces the function of these corpora cavernosa, working on the principle that the penis expands when the cylinder is filled with saline solution and contracts when it is removed.

Penile Implant – Types and Uses

Bendable Implants

The bendable implant involves inserting flexible, bendable cylinders into the corpora cavernosa of the penis. These cylinders can be bent downward for everyday concealment and manually straightened to achieve and maintain an erect state during sexual activity.

Compared to the inflatable type, the surgery is simpler, there are no pumps or fluid reservoirs involved, which reduces the risk of mechanical failure, and it is relatively more affordable.

Effective even for small penises

Effective in treating premature ejaculation by maintaining a continuous erection

The implant can be adjusted to the desired angle

Durable and can be used semi-permanently

Inflatable Implants

Inflatable implants consist of a pump, a fluid reservoir, and two cylinders, and unlike the inflatable type, they work in a way that is similar to a natural erection, making them the most advanced and patient-satisfying treatment for erectile dysfunction.

This procedure involves inserting an inflatable cylinder into the corpora cavernosa of the penis, a controllable pump into the scrotum, and a fluid reservoir in the lower abdomen behind the pubic bone. When the pump is activated at the required time, the fluid in the reservoir moves into the cylinder, resulting in an erection.

Effective in increasing the thickness and length of the penis compared to the curved type

When inflated, the shape of the penis is similar to that of a natural erection.

An erection can be achieved whenever required

The erection remains even after ejaculation and it can be used semi-permanently

Who Needs Penile implant surgery?

Most patients are able to recover erectile function and resume normal sexual activity within a few weeks after about a one-hour implant surgery. In particular, inflatable implants provide a natural erection and show high patient satisfaction.

We recommend penile implant surgery to people experiencing the following issues:

  • When sexual intercourse is difficult despite ongoing medication treatment
  • When suffering from combined conditions such as erectile dysfunction and penile curvature
  • When diagnosed with erectile incapacity due to prostate cancer or spinal nerve damage
  • When vascular problems exist due to chronic diseases like diabetes or arteriosclerosis

The bendable implant is a method that normally stores the penis by bending it and maintains an erection by stretching it out during sexual intercourse, while the inflatable type induces an erection by moving a solution through a pump into the implant at the desired time.

Although there are individual differences, you can generally have sexual intercourse after a recovery period of about 4 to 6 weeks after surgery.
