Procedure Process Explanation

Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (Englarged Prostate) and the Progator Treatment

Progator is an upgraded version of UroLift, an enlarged prostate treatment that can adjust the location and range for each patient according to the size, shape, and length of the individual’s prostate and urethra. Unlike UroLift, it does not use clip ligation, but instead uses a special thread to ligate both sides of the prostate to widen the urethral space.

The conventional UroLift method involves ligating one point at a time, requiring multiple procedures. However, Progator performs ligation simultaneously at two points using a thread-like form, saving time and cost, which provides an economic advantage.

In addition, it is a safe procedure that has almost no foreign body sensation, can be performed in one sitting, makes it easy to control prostate pressure, and can be modified at any time.

Advantages of the Progator Procedure

The biggest advantage of Progator is that it can the degree of compression of the prostate tissue can be adjusted, so personalized treatment can be provided. Also, unlike the existing UroLift, it can ligate 2 points at once, providing great results while greatly reducing time and cost. It is a safe treatment that even the elderly can receive without worries.

Progator VS UroLift: Comparison

Generally, the ProGator procedure is more effective than UroLift because ligation is performed simultaneously at two points. However, in cases where the prostate is enlarged in an atypical or asymmetrical manner, UroLift, which allows easier compression of specific areas, may be a better choice.

Progator treatment process

ProGator is a medical device developed to adjust the ligation sites and compression intensity according to each patientโ€™s prostate shape, size, and urethral length. Therefore, with skilled techniques to control the length of the thread and the degree of compression, it enables a more precise, personalized procedure tailored to the individualโ€™s condition.

STEP 1 – Preoperative Anesthesia

This shows the urethra being compressed by an enlarged prostate, with local anesthesia administered using anesthetic jelly.

STEP 2 – Implant Insertion

An implant is inserted to secure space in the narrowed urethra before ligation.

STEP 3 – Implantation of Ligature Thread

Considering the size and shape of the prostate, the narrowed urethra is expanded using a lifting technique, pulling the prostate tissue back.

STEP 4 – Prostate Ligation

After securing space in the urethra by ligating the enlarged prostate on both sides, urination problems are improved.

Progator; Providing Smooth and Comfortable Urination

Who Needs Benign prostatic hyperplasia treatment?

Many people think that benign prostatic hyperplasia is an inevitable phenomenon of aging, so they often ignore the symptoms. Of course, it is true that bodily functions decline and urination becomes more difficult as you age, but it is different from the general aging phenomenon in that it is a disease that occurs as the prostate enlarges.

  • Frequently feeling the urge to urinate and being unable to hold it
  • Feeling like there is still urine left even after urinating
  • Difficulty starting to urinate immediately
  • Urination is not smooth and stops intermittently
  • Waking up from sleep due to the urge to urinate

If left untreated, it can lead to decreased urinary function, which can cause problems with bladder or kidney function, or in severe cases, complications such as urinary tract infections, bladder stones, and kidney damage.

Both procedures are similar in that they involve tying off both sides of the prostate without removing it, but while the UroLift can tie off only one point in one session, the Progator can tie off two points simultaneously, making it more time- and cost-effective.

Additionally, the Progator has the advantage of allowing for customized treatment as it can adjust the ligation site and level of pressure with special thread.
